Clubbing the Coco Bongo way in Cancun!

Cancun comes to mind as one of the top party destinations in the world. People come from all over the world to Cancun to enjoy the vivid and wild nightlife. Similar to Las Vegas, nightclubs line the hotel zone, clustered specifically around the Plaza Forums: Senor Frogs, The City, Sweet, Roo, and more clubs and bars! In the midst of all the clubs and bars is the one known to all since it was created in 1997: Coco Bongo. Coco Bongo is infamous not just for its nightclub, but because they offer live entertainment within the nightclub. Imagine Hollywood acts, tribute artists, and Cirque-like shows interlinked with nightclub music every night!

On weeknights, Coco Bongo’s admission is cheaper than on weekend evenings. You can advance purchase your tickets on their website, although the best deals are through the hotel you stay with. Hotels receive special discount wristbands, most of which are VIP wristbands to skip the regular lineup, receive a good spot within the club, and a standup cocktail table. Note: Coco Bongo does not have seating unless you purchase a VIP package for $100, so be prepared to stand and dance. However, they don’t really enforce a dress code, so you can wear runners or sandals. All admissions include unlimited drinks until 3:30am. However, with the VIP package for $100 you also receive premium alcohol and a special server for the evening.

When we arrived, there was a small lineup for VIPs from the hotels. We got shuttled into the club, which was already quite packed. Capacity is at 3000 people on a multi-level standing space, with a bar in the middle and on the sides of the room, and a large elevated stage in the front. Coco Bongo was breaking out into its Beetlejuice act, followed by intervals of clubbing music & music videos, before acts such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Lady GaGa impersonation, Madonna, Batman, Spiderman, Elvis tribute artist, Michael Jackson, and other acts came on stage. From when we arrived at 11:30pm until 2:30am, live entertainment acts appeared every 5-10 minutes. We never felt like the evening was too long. Originally, I was expecting to leave the club no later than 2am as I was not really into clubbing and drinking; however, the live entertainment kept us so entertained we stayed til 3am. The club is opened 10:30pm to closing every night (you can party it all night). As we were leaving a DJ was spinning and girls were dancing on the stage. I agree that Coco Bongo is quite the place to be. They have locations in Cancun & Playa del Carmen. I’d like to see one in Las Vegas one day!
